Gaming with Joe Manganiello

A little over a year ago, Joe reached out to me when he saw that I was preparing a piracy themed D&D campaign where any alignment would be allowed.  He was intrigued and expressed his fondness for dirty no good evil doers.  We have been talking ever since.

Fast forward to Gary Con X, Joe and I had planned to meet up and roll some dice together.  Sadly, the fates conspired against us as Joe was stuck in his hotel room for nearly the entire convention with the flu.  About a week later, he contacted me about flying out to Los Angeles to participate in a double super secret event taking place in June.  The event was the Stream of Many Eyes.

Obviously, this is a painfully abbreviated history of how Joe and I came to know each other.  Most of our interactions have involved rapid fire text messages, some of which were meant for other people, but that all changed in June.

We had been planning a game in the weeks leading up to the Stream of Many Eyes.  The party was to be comprised of Joe’s chums, new and old, including Luke Gygax, John Cassel, Ron Mathews, Steve McAuly, Nick Manganiello, and Turbo.   I am in the process of writing book three of the Days of Blight trilogy and took the opportunity to play test chapter three with the group.

Joe would play Arkhan but the character that stands out in my mind the most is Ron Mathews’ Paladin, Bieber MJ Timberlake.  The interaction between Joe and Ron, being opposed alignments, was priceless.  I don’t want to go into the details of the advenure (Days of Blight Book 3 will launch in early 2019) but suffice to say that a party led by Arkhan, fraught with internal alignment differences, we had a hilariously good time.  That said, I was pleased with how the players responded to the horror aspects of the adventure.  In fact, I still hear from a few of them about how much they loved it!

The night was absolutely a stunning success.  Steve, Joe, and Turbo brought a ton of gifts for me.  Joe and Steve gave me Jocks Machina and Two Crows merchandise while Turbo had Days of Blight RTAK-II combat knives made for everyone.  As Bilbo would say, a night to remember!

Anyway, on with the pictures!
